Review | The New Beauty of Joseon Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen

It may be February, but sunscreen season never stops! Okay, maybe it kind of stops if you live in the frozen north like me. But what better reminder of warmer, sunnier weather than a new sunscreen drop? Well, we’re in luck- Beauty of Joseon just released their new Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen with SPF 40. They sent me a few bottles to try, so I gave it do thorough testing so you wouldn't have to. Let’s take a look at all the details of this new sunscreen! Scroll to the bottom if you just want a quick list of pros and cons 🙂

About the Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen

The Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen is a new mineral SPF formula from Beauty of Joseon, a Korean skincare brand. You may recognize the brand name from their viral Relief Sun sunscreen. This new tinted sunscreen is available in 12 shades- see the official swatches below!

You get 50mL or 1.69 fluid ounces of product for $16. It is currently only available directly from Beauty of Joseon.

The Formula

Despite Beauty of Joseon’s Korean roots, the Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen is an American formula with FDA approved filters. Many Asian and European sunscreens use filters that are not yet approved in the US, which is totally fine! The US filters tend to be less cosmetically elegant than in other parts of the world, which is why so many of us adore our Korean or Japanese sunscreens. Because of this, it’s important to note that the Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen is an American formula.

Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen SPF 40 utilizes zinc oxide as the sole active sunscreen filter. This makes it a 100% mineral sunscreen! Chemical filters aren’t bad, but they tend to be less reef-safe than mineral formulations. You can learn a bit more about that here.

This formula is not water or sweat resistant. It is vegan and cruelty-free.

Texture & Application

The Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen has a very watery, light texture. It’s quite runny. It feels very smooth on the skin and takes a while to sink in, allowing you ample time to blend to your heart’s desire. I find myself wishing it dried down a little quicker, but I do love that thoroughly rubbing it in never causes any pilling. It leaves my skin feeling silky smooth and slightly dewy. There is no obvious sunscreen smell.

Finish & Wear

The coverage is incredibly light- so light that I’m not sure if it really gave me any coverage at all. It did, however, give my skin a really natural looking radiance.

Perhaps most importantly, the Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen leaves no whitecast on me! Mineral sunscreens can be notoriously ghostly, so I was thrilled to see that I still looked like a living human with this one. I do have light skin, so I can’t speak to how it performs on darker skin tones.

I do find that this SPF clings quite stubbornly to my dry patches of skin. This is a common issue with mineral sunscreens, though I feel it is a bit more noticeable here than with other formulas I’ve tried (see also the Mo’ Bay Mineral Sunscreen Drops).

This sunscreen wears just fine under makeup- I’ve had no issues with pilling, cakiness, or separation. It’s very comfortable to wear and holds up well throughout the day.

So, what do you think?

I think this is a great sunscreen formula overall! It’s cosmetically elegant, comfortable to wear, and pretty affordable. I do wish the tint gave a bit better coverage, but truthfully a tint isn’t high on my priority list for a daily SPF. The price is great for how high quality the formula is- similar sunscreens I've tried go for much more.
