EDIT: August 14th I added updated growth pics after 12 weeks using the serums!
Long lashes and full brows have never been more trendy. From falsies to lash lifts and microblading, we're out here looking for any way to achieve that elusive "natural but better" look. One of the most sustainable methods for lash and brow growth is to utilize a serum. No booking lash fills, no taking cold showers to avoid steam, and most importantly, no pain!
With all the hype around lash and brow serums, I went ahead and tried LashSpell, a rising star in the beauty community. I did all the research and testing so you wouldn't have to. What I discovered was amazing, and I can't wait to show you!
This post is not sponsored, and everything I've written here is my genuine opinion 🙂
The Side Effects of Great Lashes
A bit of background on why LashSpell's formula is so important:
Many people turn to powerful serums- think Latisse, Babe Lash, or GRANDELash- to achieve fuller, longer lashes. While these formulas are clinically proven to work, they aren't always the gentlest on our delicate eye area. Many utilize prostaglandins, a hormone-adjacent and naturally occurring chemical, to stimulate lash growth.
Unfortunately, applying prostaglandins in this way can come with a number of unfortunate side-effects. Those with sensitive skin or eyes may experience issues including eye irritation or swelling. In extreme cases, prostaglandins can cause a permanent darkening of the irises or loss of the orbital fat around the eye socket. Geeze. Is it really worth the risk??
To lots of people, it's not. (I'm one of those people.)
Why LashSpell?
LashSpell's formulations don't include prostaglandins or any other "active" ingredients. Because of this, when LashSpell first reached out to me, I was skeptical. Despite my need to avoid serums with potentially unfortunate side effects, I also didn't have much faith in products without them. After a little research I decided to take the leap and give it a try. Here's what I found out!
Clean Formulations
LashSpell's serums are formulated with biotin, peptides, and other nourishing ingredients (like pumpkin seed extract)! They claim to condition and strengthen your natural lashes and brows, enhancing their look over time. Their formulas also leave out any known irritants or allergens, making them a super gentle option for the sensitive skin gang.
Their are ophthalmologist and dermatologist approved. They're also clinically proven to "improve the appearance of lash volume, length, thickness, fullness, definition, condition, and
density."
More than Lashes
LashSpell has two star serums: "LashSpell", which is for (you guessed it) your lashes; and "BrowSpell", which is also appropriately named.
Ethical Business Practices
LashSpell was founded in California by siblings Tara and Trevor. Their goal was to create a gentle and effective formula at a more accessible price point than other top brands. Their serums are formulated, made, and shipped in the US.
LashSpell also donates 1% of all sales to Cancer Cartel, non-profit that helps financially support cancer patients!
My Results
Okay, time for the good stuff. To test the results, I took some before/after pics. I used LashSpell and BrowSpell every night for eight weeks, then took some updated pictures. Here they are next to each other:
I was SHOOK. While I could tell that the serums had been working, I didn't realize just how much. I was most impressed with the difference in my brows- You can see the new growth starting to appear all along the bottom. My lashes have also grown denser and longer, and with that has come a bit of a natural curl.
Just yesterday someone asked me if I was wearing false eyelashes- it was just a good mascara, but it was also super validating!
I've continued to use the serums since these pictures. I think my lashes have seen the most improvement long-term! I tend to pull on my eyebrows when I'm anxious, which can cause patches like seen in the before photos above. Because of this, I have a harder time tracking the progress my brows have made since I tend to undo it all when I'm stressed.
Despite the brow pulling, I have noticed that any patchy areas fill in faster and that my brows are generally denser than before.
Week 12 Update: Everything has continued to improve! My lashes are long enough now that they even have a bit of a natural curl- that's new! My brows have also continued to fill in beautifully. I'm honestly speechless when I look at the "before" pic compared to my most recent update below. Was I really walking around with half an eyebrow? Not anymore. Needless to say, I'm thrilled.
Serum Application
Both serums are quick and easy to apply. Simply brush LashSpell along your lash line and call it good! With BrowSpell, I like to work the wand (like a mascara wand) backwards through my brows to make sure it reaches the skin.
Here more specific instructions from LashSpell themselves:
- Remove makeup
- Cleanse face
- Pat dry
- Apply lash serum to the base of your clean, dry lashes
- Apply brow serum by gently brushing through brows
- Avoid applying other products to the eyes or face until the serums have dried
- Apply nightly until desired results are achieved
Every now and then I woke up to a slight residue on my lashes (never my brows). It was white and almost like a spider web. This residue was easy to brush off, but it made me glad I applied the serums at night instead of in the morning.
With consistent application, one can expect to see results between four and six weeks, with the maximum results appearing around week twelve. My experience was consistent with this timeline!
Final Thoughts
To say I'm in love with these little serums would be an understatement. With zero side effects (everyone is different though!), easy application, and clear results, I'll definitely be recommending LashSpell to anyone looking for a gentle way to boost their natural lashes or brows.
So, what do you think? Would you give LashSpell or BrowSpell a try? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
