Welcome to the OurWildBeauty Blog! I'm thrilled to be here and even more thrilled that you are, too. This is a space for beauty lovers to learn, connect, and discover. It's where you can unapologetically share your passion for traditionally "feminine" things without judgement, no matter how you identify. Welcome!
I'm Lindsay, and it's nice to meet you 🙂 I'm an interpretive biologist, writer, and beauty enthusiast.
Where I'm Coming From
I'm from Michigan, where I grew up running through the woods and catching bluegill off the dock. Growing up with two brothers meant I didn't spend much time being a girly-girl. It wasn't until college that I started to really indulge in my fascination with makeup- I unwrapped the Urban Decay Naked II palette on Christmas of 2016 and never looked back!
But it wasn't easy to fall right into a world of glitter and winged liner. I was pursuing a degree in Natural Resource biology, a somewhat male-dominated field. It sounds silly, but it made me incredibly self conscious to walk into a classroom full of people in steel-toed boots and camo hats when I'd spent time making my eyelids sparkly. It felt like knowing my stuff wasn't enough- I also needed to look the part of "rugged outdoorswoman" to fit in.
There's nothing wrong with loving beauty and loving the outdoors. Women are multifaceted creatures! We can have "conflicting" interests!! I'd love to go back in time and tell college me to keep wearing makeup to the lab. Avoiding femininity to conform to a male dominated field didn't make me any less of a woman to those in charge, so I might as well wear some lipgloss in the woods, ya know??
Where I am Now
Minor identity crisis aside, I got my degree (and a certificate in creative writing) in 2019! I moved to California, got really into skincare, moved to Colorado, discovered fish-inspired makeup, started social media part-time, and recently landed back in Michigan.
This social media journey has been a wild one. I never expected anything to come of it- in fact, this was my THIRD attempt at starting a beauty Instagram. Thankfully this one stuck 🙂
I spend most of my time behind the camera now, creating content for brands that past me could only have dreamed of working with. I'm also very fortunate to receive gifted products to review and share with you all. I've got some affiliate codes, some PR packages, and more skincare than I can use (don't worry, I share!!). I'll never call myself an influencer, but I'd love to be your beauty bestie 🙂
I also love gardening, hiking, and eating good food! I can frequently be found wallowing in sunbeams, lizard style. I have a full Gandalf (the gray) costume and am not afraid to wear it. My skin is never perfect and I still cannot curl my own hair.
